A Few Words About Satellite Internet

Satellite Internet is a good alternative to standard Internet especially when it comes to places where access via cable is impossible, or for places that are in constant or frequent motion. And this is maybe the most important advantage of satellite Internet: it Streamyx Combo be available anywhere, even at sea on a boat or on land vehicles.

There are basically three important types of satellite Internet, and they are: one way, two way and portable satellite Internet. One way is also split up into one way multicast and one way with terrestrial return.

The one way with multicast Internet service is mostly used for Internet Protocol based data, and also for video and audio distribution. The downside of the one way multicast is that it will not offer your usual interactivity. Although web pages can be loaded and viewed, full interactivity is not possible. This resembles a radio or tv station very much by its nature.

On the other hand, one way with terrestrial return is mainly used with your standard dial up Internet access. The outgoing data is sent through a telephone modem, while the downloads are done via satellite, at a speed which resembles broadband Internet very much.

Now let's talk a little bit about two way satellite Internet. This type of service will send the data via satellite to a specific hub, which in turn will send the data forward to the Internet. The satellite dishes which are placed in specific location must be very precisely positioned in order for them to avoid a possible interference with other satellites. Moreover, power management is crucial at each of these locations. The amount of transmitted power must be adjusted according to the conditions outside, such as rain fade.

Finally, portable satellite Internet comes in two basic forms: with a portable satellite modem or via a satellite phone. Satellite modems come in a rectangular shaped box. This needs to be pointed in a general direction towards where the satellite is, but it doesn't have to be very exact.

However, this technology doesn't come cheap. If you are using a satellite modem, your bandwidth will cost you between $5 and $7 for each megabyte. The modems themselves are also quite expensive, ranging from $1000 to as high as $4000.

Finally, Internet via satellite phone has been around for quite some time now and it's nothing new. Although you will have a much smaller bandwidth at your disposal, it may come in handy on various occasions, especially when you are away on a vacation and you don't have immediate Internet access.

Now, whether you should go for satellite Internet or not, that's your own choice to make. If you live in a secluded area, that may very well be your only choice, but there are also other advantages that services like Dish Network and Streamyx Installation provide upon purchasing a satellite Internet package.
